Brick is durable and beautiful – that’s a fact.
But given time for repeated freeze-thaw and wet-dry cycles, water and weather can crack and spall brick and erode mortar joints.
Efflorescence, soiling, mold and mildew and metallic staining are some of the other unwanted effects destructive water penetration causes in masonry over time. Sometimes the exposure can do its dirty work in just a few years – or less.
That’s one reason masonry manufacturers nationwide recommend masonry water repellent Sure Klean® Weatherseal Siloxane PD (Prediluted) for projects built with their clay brick.
It’s easy to use. Spray on with pump-up sprayer, or use the simple bucket and brush method. Low-odor Siloxane PD penetrates deeply, lining the pores of the masonry with water-repellent molecules. Because it’s water-based, Siloxane PD doesn’t have the explosion and fire-hazard issues of solvent-based water-repellents.
And it complies with all known national, state and local volatile organic content regulations, California to Maine.
Siloxane PD is breathable – water vapor gets out out, but liquid water can’t soak in. It just beads up on the surface, runs down and evaporates. Because the protective treatment works from beneath the masonry surface, there’s no change in brick color or texture. There’s no surface film to blush or fail.
That’s one reason architects nationwide specify Siloxane PD for their clay masonry projects – new construction and restoration.
