Arriscraft: Citadel Series Desert Brown Renaissance Series Paprika
The Jefferson Township Fire Station located on the corner of Reynoldsburg-New Albany Road and Havens Corners in Gahanna, was designed to fit in with the surrounding area character of the Early American Architectural style and to have the modern conveniences of today. Anthony Udeagbala of Machisa Design Services was inspired from his studies of Architect Louis Sullivan and his knowledge of today's product to formulate the design. Louis Sullivan is regarded today as one of the most individual and innovative architects of the developing modern period.
Anthony Udeagbala took architecture elements abling him to design powerful architecture with the modern and cost effective material finishes today. The exterior of the building was originally planned natural rebel limestone, which was too expensive. Anthony Udeagbala was able to achieve this look for approximately 30% less then the cost of the limestone by using Arriscraft. A combination of the Citadel Series Desert Brown used as the fieldstone and the Renaissance Series Paprika was used as the sill and accent banding.
Arriscraft products are made just as natural limestone is formed in the earth only much faster. The ingredients in Arriscraft products include silica, sand, lime, color pigment and water. Anthony Udeagbala designed arches to be custom sculpted out of the Renaissance series. This design feature can be seen over the garage doors both in the front and the back of the fire station. The arches repeat the Early American architectural elements creating definition, shading and depth on a simplified format.
The interior of the Jefferson Township Fire Department was designed to be the firefighters "home away from home". Pam Kohler, of Triad Architects, selected finishes to with stand high traffic patterns would be easy to maintain. The front lobby has the initials JTFD sandblasted in the Atlas Palatino unpolished porcelain tile. This is just one of the unique details that travel through out the entire fire station.
The design committee was made up of the Jefferson Township Trustees, the Fire Chief, many Fire Fighters, Cody-Zeigler, Inc. serving as general contractor, Machisa Design Services and Triad Architects.
